New Games Have Arrived This Week

We picked up a beautiful Videomaster cabinet (nerd fact, our logo is made from the old Videomaster 80s logo) and it was just begging to be a Kung Fu Master, and now it is! For the uninitiated Kung Fu Master is simply the best of the side scrolling Kung Fu classics with great controls and is just about hard enough to make you grind your teeth to dust but not so hard that you could never complete it. We love it, and we're loving having it.

We also picked up a mini Japanese Pony arcade machine. It's a gorgeous wee thing and also the perfect size for kids. It's now the rainbow chucking classic Rainbow Islands, the sequel to Bubble Bobble.

What else will be on the floor?

Our most asked question, so let's end the mystery. In the six months since we've started we've put together what we hope is a great collection of games focusing more on the classic 80s titles but with something for everyone. We're 80s kids after all.

Hitting the arcade floor on Saturday will be Crystal Castles, Enduro Racer, Arkanoid, Shadow Dancer, Choplifter, Bionic Commando, Renegade, Soldier of Light, Wonderboy in Monster Land, Kung Fu Master, Bubble Bobble, WWF Superstars, Galaxian, Pac-Man, Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition, Rainbow Islands, Defender, Ghosts and Goblins, Hyper Sports, Donkey Kong, Time Crisis 3, R-Type, Football Kicker Strength Tester, Track and Field, Solomon's Key, Final Fight, Wonderboy, Virtua Striker 2000, Moon Patrol, Rolling Thunder, Point Blank, Lethal Enforcers, The Invaders, Kung Fu Master and Wizard of Wor as well as Gigantic Guitar hero, a fantastic new Dreamcast setup with a mega screen and classic consoles loaded up with hundreds of classic games.

And we've a collection of classic tabletop games for a bit of downtime with a beer including Operation, Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots, Battleships, Binho and more. Oh and we bought wee lamps to light up the tables, thanks for the feedback on that!

We've another 15 games in the workshop which won't make it out this time but we've got some great titles coming in the New Year including Space Ace, Tehkan World Cup, Mexico 86, Operation Thunderbolt, Sega Rally, Street Fighter 3rd Strike, Silent Scope Ex and many more.

Lastly our GIGANTIC Guitar Hero will return with a massive upgrade including great new guitars, a brand new Xbox 360 setup and also all of that elusive downloadable content which basically equates to a shit ton of new songs for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and also Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock.

GIGANTIC Guitar Hero was a huge hit at the Black Box

Plans for 2025

Since starting Base Arcade in 2020 and now into the Retro Room our mission has always been the same; to bring Belfast its first permanent retro arcade. We're making great strides towards this with a number of properties in the city centre interested in hosting us. It's down to the where's, what's and why's now and making sure that we can build a sustainable business. We're both experienced entrepreneurs so hopefully we know what we're doing (!) and can get the outcome we all want.

We'll host a few pop ups in between to keep the ball rolling but the plan solidly is for you fine folk to be gaming away in a permanent premises by the end of June. More to come on that as we move forward.

Don't forget those discounted tickets folks, catch you next weekend for some festive fun!

Written to the sounds of some godawful Xmas musak in the Dark Horse. Back to better tunes next week!
