Mission Brief #2 - A New Venue for the Retro Room and Recoil in Horror at the Big Shooter Fix Up
A new venue and a bunch of shooting games are ready for the arcade floor.
New Venue!
Well sort of. The Retro Room will be taking up residency at the Oh Yeah Music Centre later this month and yep there will an Arcade Party or five once again at Oh Yeah in the very near future while we wait for the refurb of the permanent premises to be completed.
Not only is Oh Yeah a great venue in the best location in Belfast city centre’s Cathedral Quarter district it’s a charity and one of the few live music venues left in the whole of the UK and Ireland.
As Marty was a co-founder of Oh Yeah way back in 2007 we’re very, very passionate about continuing to support it in any way we can. We hope you’ll help us to do the same by attending or even hosting events at Oh Yeah. You can make a donation also https://localgiving.org/fundraising/supportohyeah
As a slight twist on what went before at Base Arcade we want the Retro Room to be a little bit broader. While it will host over 50 original as possible 70s, 80s and 90s arcade games we’ll have a few other attractions alongside them such as a pro level tabletop football setup for some great Subbuteo action as well as a shelf or two of classic 70s, 80s and 90s tabletop games including Operation, Battleships, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, Nintendo Blow Football, Defender the board game and many others.
We’ll also feature a slew of retro consoles and vintage computers too running on what are frankly ancient TVs. So much nostalgia you can smell it (but it won't smell like stale fegs like everything did back then!)
We’ve also got two big gaming innovations under construction in the workshop, more on those in a future dispatch. You’ll love them, they’ll be competitive socialising at its very best we can assure you ;)
Recoil in Horror - the Halloween Week of Fixing Gun Games
If you don’t care what a solenoid is or does you’re wiser than we are.
For those still reading they’re the wee motor that make the recoil work in gun games. And they’re a bloody nightmare to get and stay going!
Thankfully we’ve an expert arcade op / hacker / druid on hand to find workarounds to all sorts of impossible problems and as a result we have Point Blank, Lethal Enforcers and Operation Thunderbolt ready to roll on to an arcade floor near you very soon.
And we’ve another gun game under construction also that we’re very excited about. We’ll keep silent on that one for now.
Thanks for reading, see you all soon down at Oh Yeah where we’re gonna party like it’s 1989 ('99 was just too crazy.)
